Kirkland, WA - “The Little City That Could”
In 1886, Peter Kirk, a British born enterprising businessman seeking to expand the family’s Moss Bay steel production company, moved to Washington after hearing that vast iron deposits had been discovered in the Cascade mountain range. Kirk’s dream of dominating the local steel industry never came to fruition, but due to his efforts and attention which Kirk himself drew to the area, in 1905 his namesake town of Kirkland was incorporated into King County.
Since its incorporation, the City of Kirkland has grown to approximately 12 times its original geographical boundaries. Kirkland’s popularity is partly due to its proximity to the major economic hubs of Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond and Renton. Kirkland’s real estate market has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent history and is a sought after area by many looking to relocate to the Puget Sound region.
